Big Brother

I was watching a Disney Gallery episode on the creation of the final episode of season two of the Mandalorian. They used a software that recreated Luke Skywalker's voice from when the actor Mark Hamill was younger. I found a free site called Typecast that allows me to make basic voices read my lines back to me and they're downloadable.

I can't seem to share them into this blog. But they're pretty cool. I created a voice for John the creative labs ceo and a voice for Sophie, the Tannoy voice. It's pretty cool because I've never played with sound before really. I'm going to look for some kind of sound editor and play around with a few things.

Speed Tutorials

I was given the opportunity to meet with 16 different lecturers from the college with a five minute tutorial with each. But due to being on teams, I only got round to seeing 6 lecturers, but it ended up being that I was getting around ten minutes with each tutor, and I gained a lot from each of the tutors I met with, but there were two tutorials in particular that have really helped me push these ideas further..

The first was with Craig Wood who misunderstood my pitch of the Creative Laboratories, seeing it as more of a dystopian company, playing with ideas that creativity is consuming, it consumes our lives, and it's not always a good thing. It's really interesting that he misunderstood these ideas, because that misunderstanding has given a whole new context to the work, because before I pitched the idea of my performance I explained to Craig how I got here, and that explanation involved a lot of head work, I've been on a creative journey that at times definitely made me distance myself from my wife and kids, always thinking about what I'm doing, and not living in the moment of family life. So maybe Craig's understanding wasn't a misunderstanding at all, but a reading of what I'd been through throughout this process, it definitely makes me look at the whole idea slightly differently.

The second 'breakthrough' tutorial was near the end of the morning with Catherine Hammerton, who was really quite the opposite to Craig, and even more leaning towards a Utopian vision of the creative laboratories, even re naming it in her own head canon as the creativity hotel, which I thought was a great contrast to have from Craig's dystopian vision of the Creative labs. We talked about childhood, and my kids, coming to an eventual realization that creativity is strongest when were young, and so maybe my daughter who's four, should be the CEO of the creative Labs, she's much more creative than I am because she doesn't have this preconceived idea of the world.
